Car 0, Resourceful Female 1

So, I was driving to Potomac in the Acura to run some errands, and on the phone with my mom discussing plans regarding a recent death in the family, when I hear a ker-thump from the engine bay. A ker-thump followed by a dragging metallic noise.

I get off the phone and pull over to the side of the road, put the hazards on, pop the hood, and wait for traffic to stop at the red light before getting out to investigate. I open the hood to discover a belt sticking straight up, and a pulley getting knocked around by the main (operating) belt. I curse and go turn the car off.

As far as I can tell, it's just the AC belt. Of course, when the loose pulley knocked around, it nicked the main belt. And unless I can get that pulley out of there, and the loose belt disentangled from the main belt, I'm not going to be able to turn the car back on much less drive it anywhere.

The pulley is wedged between the main belt, radiator overflow, and the engine. The engine is hot. It's raining. And I'm only willing to work under the hood when there aren't two lanes of traffic merging at 50mph coming past me, which means I have to work in between signals for River Rd. and Seven Locks traffic. 30 minutes and a few superficial scratches and burns later, I am victorious- albeit a bit greasy and damp. Pulley extracted, dangling belt cut, the car starts perfectly and I'm on my way.

I drive to the acura dealership after my errands to verify that it was just the AC belt & pulley that failed, and make an appointment to have it fixed next week. (They have all of the assembly in stock... except for the damn bolt that failed!) And as long as I don't need AC, I can drive the car. Wheee.

I really do appreciate that I'm not a helpless female. Some times I appreciate it more than others ;-)
