I'm back in class. This particular class (a WinterTerm course) will be meeting daily from 1700-2100 for the next three weeks. If I'm lucky, I'll emerge with another A.

After that is Spring semester. It turns out that they didn't get enough people to register for CMSC131H, so they sent mail to everyone registered for regular CMSC131 inviting them to apply to switch to the Honors course. In theory it required having an advising meeting with one of the CS advisors, but apparently my email was enough to convince them. I admit to being blunt and saying, in effect, "hi, I know my academic record is crap, I'm including my resume so you have more information." I guess they decided my resume was reasonable. Or perhaps it was the novelty of complete sentences.

The advantage of the Honors section is a max class size of 20 versus a class size of 40. Also it is not at 0800. I switched my registration as soon as they set the permission bit.

I was leaving my class this evening when a guy called out to me halfway down the hall. He was hoping I might be able to help him do something in Photoshop. I tried to think if I remembered how to do it, and couldn't, so said so. "Oh," he said. "I just thought you might be able to help." I smiled as I apologized and continued going out the door.

I was halfway home when it finally struck me that he was probably hitting on me. Doh! He was actually rather cute. Still, I think I probably need to start walking around with a sign that says "I'm a decade older than you think I am".

Still desultorily interviewing. However, my current plan is to actually get to know my instructors, secure two more As in technical courses, and then apply to different colleges. (It's nearly impossible to apply to other colleges without a recommendation from a professor, and my last professor didn't make tenure and vanished to another university.)
