here, there

Happy new year! Winter term classes are in full swing- one full week down, two to go. I decided to combine the new year with--- no, not resolutions, but a push out of my inertial rut. I tried to go to a yoga class Sunday, but instead ended up orbiting the block looking for parking in the freezing cold. I eventually turned around and went home. So, instead, I went after work on Monday. The studio was running a special for January: unlimited classes for 75$. Despite my misgivings (something *always* happens) I signed up for it. At least I'm a student, and thus get a discount.

Tuesday, I ran into the cute TA. I'd let my spite get the better of me last semester, and had snidely decided I'd make a full-on play for her once the semester was over. But really, it's none of my business who her facebook "it's complicated" is, and honestly, under her helpless-pretty-girl act she's actually just a sweet (young) girl. And I don't do sweet. So I'd decided to let it go. Of course I run into her, and she's inclined to talk, and we end up holding up the hallway walls chatting while my lunch hour drifts away. My boss saw me and smirked. Eventually, we wander off in our opposite directions-- I walk out to my car, trying to calculate if it is at all possible for me to find lunch before work, while just breathing and taking in the beautiful (if cold) day. I remember gazing up at an industrious woodpecker, and then taking a few more steps on the path, and then-- boom. Full-on face-forward fall. My right ankle buckled (not the one I twisted last), and my left knee and right hand hit around the same time, with my book flying. I lay there gasping for a minute, and was finally able to roll myself over and sit up, but couldn't really get any farther. My book was within reach, though. A guy had been walking towards me some ways away, and passed by a few minutes later without a word.

Eventually, I conclude I'm shocky, and food has now been moved from "nice" to "necessary". I send a text to my boss, telling him that I'd fallen and would be late. He responded pretty immediately with a WTF- I just saw you talking to [our TA]. My response was that I have an upgraded version of "pretty girls make me walk into trees", and saved the falling for when no one could see me.

Pho cures many things, so I carefully and painfully made my way to the car, drove stiffly down to Langley Park, limped my way into pho 75, ordered from memory, and then headed straight to the washroom.

Ow.

Knee and hand done scraped good. Fortunately, my stretch pants had not ripped, so that wound was clean, at least. I had not been wearing gloves, however. Soap, hot water, pat dry, repeat. Ow.

My pho was waiting for me when I got back.

I did mention that something always happens, didn't I?

This time I decided to not let accidents get the better of me. I took my bound hand and swollen joints and went to yoga anyway. Eh, whats a little pain?

Wednesday I felt like I'd been through a shredder, but I'm pretty sure I would have felt like that anyway. I did not go to yoga wednesday. But I did thursday. And today. So, small steps. I'd already handily had a PT appt scheduled for Monday, so I can look forward to a lecture then, I guess.

Straight As last semester has now put a 3.5 GPA within reach for me... IFF I take one more credit. The prof who was NOT an ass last semester has agreed to sponsor a 1-credit independent study for me. But he is still out of the country, so we'll have to nail the details down later. But it *would* be amusing to say at graduation that I brought my GPA up from a D to an A.

I think I'll go dye my hair today.
