conferences

I used to think that the disconnect and loneliness I used to feel at conferences was something I brought with me, not something inherent to conferences themselves. But now I have changed my opinion. Nick was working late at the office last week, so I went to grab some food on my way home. I went into the Leb Tav in Woodley- it's on my way home, and I hadn't had lebanese food in a long while. I had my ipad and some documentation I needed to read, and was lucky enough to grab a seat at the bar.

Woodley Park, is, of course, conference central, and Leb Tav was packed. Head down in the bar, engrossed in my reading, people kept trying to make conversation with me anyway. Desperation and loneliness was roiling through the restaurant like storm front. Eating quickly and escaping out into the crisp evening, I was never so glad to leave a restaurant quickly.

In other conference news, I volunteered for a day at AppSecDC, which was quite fun and interesting. I didn't get any of the normal conference ick at all.
