So, I metroed out to Dunn Loring last night so I could join Nick's family at Woo Lae Oak in Tysons. I've never been (why, when I could go to Cho's Garden at all hours, or Mandu in town?) so I wasn't quite clear on where it was.

So we pull up in front and I stare at the building in dawning horror. "This... this used to be Sam and Harry's." At some point in the distant past, Sam and Harry's had been an ok steakhouse, but their food tanked before the Internet bubble burst and thus it was the site of many a bad industry dinner. What is it about sales guys and cigars and steakhouses?

"Well, it's a korean restaurant now!" Nick announced. Yes, yes it is. And a tasty one, and with an amazingly pretty waitress who seemed quite chagrined that Nick turned up with me. Ooops.

Still, the bones of the restaurant are pretty much the same, so that its possible to see the ghosts of salesmen past and their cigars wafting around. I spent the evening in a weird fugue, musing over the last decade.

Here I am, 9 years ago, double-fisting the alcohol because Sam and Harrys was awful even then:

Tonight, however! Tonight we dine at Komi. mmmmm.
