on cleaning

It's weird, how making one small change in my apartment cascades into all of this cleaning. It started with the fridge. I'd really wanted to know what was in that wall next to the fridge, and I didn't feel like making a hugely visible hole on the other side. So I attacked the pike of stuff on the back wall of the kitchen; collapsing boxes, putting old clothes in bags to be donated, moving stuff over. I figured I could shove the fridge there while poking around.
So I haul the fridge out, and wheel it over so it's on the back wall, plug it in (there was an outlet Right There), and get to attacking the wall. And discovered the empty space and the rubble.
And then say "hunh" and wander away from my holes and tools.
I discover, though, that the fridge is actually much more convenient where it is. Easier to get to, somehow. Feels better. Now I have this empty space, though. So I wheel my metro cart over, the one with the butcher block top that doesn't really fit in and was against the wall in my main room. It fits nicely where the fridge was. and hey, it has a shelf. The tea maker can totally go on top. And the rice cooker, it can go on the lower shelf, and not be on the stove. And the big box of tea, that *also* wouldn't fit in my cabinets (like the rice cooker), that can go on the top shelf of the cart! Oh! and the induction cook plate, that can go on top too!
Suddenly a whole stretch of counter is empty.
And it's easier to make tea.
Tea fuels all sorts of productivity. And now a good 1/3rd to 1/2 of my apartment is clean. It feels better, too. I feel freer, and then it occurs to me to attack another part- like the front closet, which no one saw but I felt, all the time.
I feel like I'm unblocking a stream.
Now, must figure out how to build the cabinets I want. Ones that will actually be deep enough and wide enough for my stuff. Also, must empty the other closet so I can take a sawzall to it. I'm halfway there.
