letting go

The wacky nigerian crawled out of the woodwork again. As might be expected, he wanted something. No niceties, just "looking to get connected to X, I see you know him."
Well, yes, I do know him. Of course, X's email address is easily googlable, which means you're either lazy, or you actually want me to *introduce you*, which requires a little more background to the problem than just 'need funding, looking to get connected to X'.
I didn't actually respond with that, but I probably should have. But on further reflection, the question is moot. I've decided that I have no interest in doing favours for someone who takes no notice of the fact that they are asking for a favour, and, moreover-- favours that they have no intention of, or ability to, repay.
I already did my round of introducing him to useful people, and all that resulted in was a towering bankruptcy. I know, I know, they say if you can't have a resounding success, the next best thing is a spectacular failure. I don't think he achieved either, though.
I don't have the requisite ruthlessness to play the game, but this time around... I'm ok with that. He can lose this one on his own; I don't have a horse in this race.
It's nice to finally realize it.
